If you have an old, damaged, wrecked, or non-running vehicle sitting around in Brevard County, you may be searching Google for “who buys junk cars near me?”

I’ve been buying junk cars for about 10 years, and during that time I’ve been involved with roughly 1,500 vehicles. I’ve bought cars all over Brevard County and also in nearby Volusia and Orange counties.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that not every junk-car buyer works the same way.

You can sell your car to a junkyard, salvage yard, one of the big online car-buying companies, or an independent junk-car buyer like me. There are advantages and disadvantages to each one, but one advantage I have as an independent buyer is that I’m not forced to take every vehicle to the same place.

I can look at the vehicle and decide where I think it has the most value.

Why an Independent Junk-Car Buyer May Pay More

Knowing the local market makes a big difference.

Not every junkyard pays the same amount for the same vehicle. One yard might really like Toyotas and Hondas, while another may pay better for Chevrolets, Fords, trucks, or SUVs.

Some yards don’t even buy directly from the public.

Because I deal with different yards and outlets, I can look around instead of automatically taking every car to the same place.

A good example was a Toyota 4Runner I bought.

The 4Runner had around 360,000 miles and plenty of cosmetic damage. I paid the owner $400 for it.

One bone yard offered me $500.

I knew another yard that usually paid better for Toyotas, so instead of taking the $500, I contacted them.

They paid me $800.

Same vehicle. Same condition. A $300 difference just because I knew where to take it.

That is why knowing the local market matters. I’ve also written a more detailed guide about how to get the most money for your junk car if you want to compare offers before selling.

What Information Do I Need to Give You a Junk-Car Quote?

When somebody calls me about selling a car, two of the most important things I need are the VIN and an honest description of the vehicle’s condition.

The VIN is extremely helpful because a lot of people don’t know the exact trim level or engine in their vehicle.

A VIN can tell me the exact year, make, model, trim and other information about the car.

For example, a vehicle with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine may have a different value than the same model with a 3.5-liter V6.

The VIN takes a lot of the guessing out of the process.

I’ll also normally ask:

  • Do you have the title?
  • Do you have the keys?
  • Is the catalytic converter still there?
  • Does the vehicle have a battery?
  • Does it have all four wheels and tires?
  • Did the airbags deploy?
  • Is there major body damage?
  • Does the engine run?
  • Is the transmission still in the vehicle?
  • Where is the vehicle located?

Photos help too, although I don’t always need photos to give somebody an initial offer.

Why Vehicle Weight Matters

One thing people sometimes don’t realize is how much the weight of a junk car matters.

When a vehicle is truly at the end of its life and is mainly being sold for scrap or salvage, the amount of metal in the vehicle becomes a major part of the value.

That is one reason trucks and SUVs will often bring more money than small cars.

Hyundai Elantras, for example, are some of the lower-value vehicles I regularly see. They simply don’t weigh very much compared with larger SUVs and pickup trucks.

A heavier pickup or SUV has more metal, and on top of that, it may have parts that are worth money.

That is one reason I like buying Toyota trucks and SUVs such as Tacomas and Tundras. The parts can have good demand, and the complete vehicle can sometimes be worth considerably more than an ordinary small junk car.

How Much Is a Junk Car Worth in Brevard County?

There is no one price for every junk car.

Anybody who tells you there is probably doesn’t have enough information about your vehicle yet.

From what I see in the real world, many ordinary junk vehicles I buy fall somewhere around $400 to $900.

Some are worth less.

Some are worth a lot more.

Two of the biggest factors are the year and condition of the vehicle.

Once I start seeing vehicles around 2015 or newer, I pay more attention because there may be more options for the vehicle.

An older vehicle will usually end up at a junkyard.

A newer damaged vehicle might make more sense at a salvage auction such as IAA or Copart.

Sometimes the difference between a $500 vehicle and a vehicle worth several thousand dollars is simply knowing what you have and where it should go.

A Salvage Title Does Not Automatically Make a Car Worthless

I once bought a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox with a salvage title.

Other buyers in the area weren’t very interested in it because of the title.

I looked at the actual vehicle.

The engine ran well and it didn’t have major body damage. Even though it had a salvage title, I thought it was still a decent vehicle.

I paid $800 for it.

Later, I sold it for $1,800.

That doesn’t mean every salvage-title vehicle is worth a lot of money. It means you shouldn’t judge a vehicle based on one piece of information.

I want to see the whole picture.

Does a Missing Catalytic Converter Lower the Offer?

Yes.

A missing catalytic converter can absolutely affect what I pay.

From my experience, if the converter has already been removed, I may receive around $50 to $100 less when I sell the car.

Naturally, I have to take that into consideration when making an offer.

I learned this lesson the hard way.

One time a customer told us the catalytic converter was still on the vehicle. We were careless and didn’t check it properly before finishing the deal.

Afterward, we discovered that it had already been cut off.

That money came straight out of our profit.

Now I know better.

Depending on the vehicle, I’ll check underneath the car and under the hood before completing the purchase.

Be Honest About the Condition of Your Car

One thing I really don’t like about the junk-car business is bait-and-switch pricing.

You’ve probably heard stories like this.

“We’ll pay you $500.”

The tow truck gets there and suddenly they’re only willing to pay $300.

I don’t believe that is the right way to do business.

I would rather ask the important questions before giving somebody a final price.

If you tell me the battery is there, the catalytic converter is there, the engine and transmission are still in the car, and everything is exactly as you described when I arrive, there shouldn’t be a reason for me to suddenly lower the price.

But there is another side to this.

If someone tells me the catalytic converter is there and I arrive and discover that somebody cut it off, the price may have to change.

That isn’t bait-and-switch.

That is a vehicle that was not described accurately.

The goal should be for both the buyer and seller to know exactly what the deal is before anybody drives out there.

Call More Than One Junk-Car Buyer

If you’re selling a junk car, I normally recommend calling about three buyers.

But I would not automatically sell the vehicle to whoever throws out the biggest number over the phone.

Check their reviews.

Especially look for reviews mentioning things such as:

“Quoted me $700 and offered me $400 when they arrived.”

If you see the same complaint over and over again, that should be a warning.

I also look at whether the business responds to negative reviews.

No business is going to make every customer happy forever. But if there are serious complaints and the company ignores all of them, that would concern me.

Can I Sell a Junk Car Without a Title?

Sometimes, but having the title makes everything easier.

In the market where I work, there are fewer places willing to accept vehicles without the proper title paperwork.

When I buy a junk car without a title, I may have fewer places where I can sell it afterward, and dealing with the paperwork can sometimes cost me around $80 to $120.

That can affect what I’m able to offer.

I’m also much more comfortable when the person selling me the vehicle has the title in their own name.

I have walked away from deals after discovering that the person trying to sell me the car wasn’t actually the owner.

Before selling a vehicle, make sure you legally have the right to sell it.

If your title is fine but your tags are no longer current, I also have a guide explaining whether you can sell a car with expired registration in Florida.

Do I Need the Key?

A key helps a lot.

A vehicle without a key can be much harder to steer, move, load onto a trailer or load onto a flatbed.

That doesn’t mean I automatically won’t buy it.

It just means the pickup can become more difficult.

The same applies when tires or wheels are missing.

Tell the buyer before they arrive so they can bring the right equipment.

What If the Car Is Wrecked?

I buy wrecked cars too.

Front-end damage, rear-end damage and other exterior damage will normally affect what I’m willing to pay, but a wrecked car is not automatically worthless.

The metal still has value.

Parts may still have value.

And newer wrecked cars can sometimes have considerably more value than people expect.

With badly damaged vehicles, one of the most important things I want to know is whether the engine and transmission are still physically in the vehicle.

They don’t necessarily have to work. Even a vehicle with a bad or blown engine can still be sold depending on the rest of the vehicle.

I just need to know whether the major components are there.

I generally don’t buy vehicles when the engine or transmission has been completely removed because the yards I deal with either won’t buy them or pay so little that after towing expenses the deal doesn’t make sense.

I also normally don’t buy RVs or motorcycles.

If your vehicle was declared a total loss and you still have a loan on it, that is a different situation. I explain that in my article about what happens when your car is totaled and you still owe money.

Is Junk-Car Towing Really Free?

You’ll see junk-car companies advertising “free towing” for junk cars.

From the customer’s point of view, yes, you may not receive a separate towing bill.

But towing is never actually free for the buyer.

We have expenses.

Our trucks need fuel.

Our trailers and tow vehicles need tires.

Things break.

Trucks need repairs and maintenance.

Drivers spend hours on the road.

The farther we have to travel, the more fuel we burn and the more time the pickup takes.

All of those expenses have to be included when figuring out how much we can pay for a vehicle.

That is why a car five miles away may sometimes make more sense financially than an identical vehicle 100 miles away.

Tell Us If the Vehicle Is Hard to Reach

The location of the vehicle matters too.

And I’m not only talking about distance.

I once went to pick up a junk car where the road wasn’t paved.

Our pickup truck and trailer ended up getting stuck on the dirt road.

That was not a fun day.

Experiences like that teach you to ask better questions.

Now I want to know whether the vehicle is easy to access.

If your vehicle is behind a house, in deep grass, missing wheels, stuck in mud, down a dirt road, inside a tight backyard, or somewhere else that might make loading difficult, tell the buyer before they come.

It makes the pickup easier for everybody.

Should I Repair My Car Before Junking It?

Usually not.

If you’ve already decided you’re going to junk the car, I normally would not recommend buying a new battery or spending hundreds of dollars on tires just so you can sell it.

You might spend more money than you get back.

Instead, get the basic information together.

Have your:

VIN, mileage and ZIP code ready.

Mileage usually isn’t nearly as important on a true junk vehicle as it would be when selling a good used car, but I still ask for it because it helps identify and document the vehicle.

Don’t Let a Junk Car Sit for Years

People sometimes leave unwanted vehicles sitting for years because they think they’ll eventually fix them.

The problem is that sitting outside doesn’t necessarily preserve the vehicle.

Rust keeps working.

Rodents move in.

I’ve seen rats and squirrels chew wiring and destroy electrical components.

Interior parts deteriorate.

Tires go flat.

Parts that might have been useful can become damaged.

Sometimes that vehicle sitting in the backyard isn’t holding its value.

It is slowly losing it.

How Fast Can You Pick Up a Junk Car in Brevard County?

Probably the most common question I hear is:

“When can you pick it up?”

Sometimes I can arrange same-day pickup.

But realistically, 24 to 48 hours is more common.

When we are extremely busy, it may occasionally take around three days, but that only happens about 10% of the time in my experience.

It really comes down to how many vehicles we already have scheduled for that day and where those vehicles are located.

If speed is your main concern, I also have some advice for people who want to sell a car quickly.

What Happens to the Car After You Buy It?

Not every junk car goes straight into a crusher.

Older vehicles I buy usually end up at a junkyard.

Newer vehicles may go somewhere completely different.

Some may go through salvage auctions such as IAA or Copart.

Others may be valuable because of certain parts.

Part of being a knowledgeable buyer is figuring out where the vehicle makes the most sense.

This is also why two legitimate buyers can give you two completely different offers.

They may have completely different outlets for the vehicle after they buy it.

How Much Money Does a Junk-Car Buyer Make?

People sometimes think junk-car buyers are making hundreds or thousands of dollars in profit on every vehicle.

I wish that were true.

On an ordinary vehicle, my target is around $150 profit after expenses.

Someone might see that I bought a vehicle for $500 and sold it for $800 and think:

“He made $300.”

But there are expenses between those two numbers.

We buy fuel.

We replace tires.

We repair our trucks.

We repair trailers.

We maintain equipment.

We spend hours driving.

We load the vehicles.

We deal with paperwork.

And sometimes we make mistakes.

There has to be enough money left in the deal to make the work worth doing.

My Advice If You’re Searching “Who Buys Junk Cars Near Me?” in Brevard County

After about 10 years of doing this and dealing with roughly 1,500 vehicles, my advice is pretty simple.

Call around.

I would get around three offers.

Have your VIN, mileage, ZIP code and an honest description of the vehicle ready.

Tell the buyer whether you have the title and keys.

Let them know if the catalytic converter is missing.

Tell them if there is no battery.

Tell them if wheels or tires are missing.

Tell them if the airbags deployed.

Tell them if the engine or transmission has been removed.

The more accurate the information is, the easier it is for someone like me to give you a realistic offer.

Then check the buyer’s reviews before accepting the deal.

A good junk-car transaction should be simple.

I should know what I’m buying.

You should know how much I’m paying.

We should know what paperwork is needed.

And everybody should know what to expect before the truck and trailer ever show up.

If you’re selling a junk car in Titusville, Mims, Cocoa, Rockledge, Melbourne, Palm Bay or anywhere else in Brevard County, dealing with somebody who actually understands the local junkyards, salvage market and different outlets for vehicles can make a real difference.

If you’re specifically in North Brevard, you can also read more about selling a junk car for cash in Titusville.

Sometimes knowing where the car should go after it is purchased is exactly what allows a local buyer to offer you more for it.

The Value of Gap Insurance: What Happens If Your Car Is Totaled and You Still Owe Money

Preface

Automobile accidents can be incredibly stressful, and the situation can become even more overwhelming if your vehicle is declared a total loss. In the aftermath of such an incident, discovering that your insurance payout isn’t sufficient to cover the remaining balance on your auto loan is the last thing you want to face. This is where the concept of “gap insurance” becomes essential. Understanding what happens when your vehicle is totaled while you still owe money on it, and why gap insurance can be invaluable, is crucial for any car owner.

What Does It Mean for a Car to Be Totaled?

When your car is deemed “totaled,” it means the vehicle has suffered damage so extensive that it is either beyond repair or the cost of repairs exceeds a certain percentage of the car’s value. Although this percentage can vary depending on your insurer and state regulations, most insurance companies consider a car totaled if the repair costs amount to 70% to 75% of the vehicle’s current market value.

Once your car is declared a total loss, your insurance company will offer you a payout equivalent to the car’s actual cash value (ACV) at the time of the accident. The ACV is essentially the value of your car before the accident, taking into account factors like depreciation, mileage, and the overall condition of the vehicle.

What Happens If You Still Owe Money on Your Car Loan?

If you financed your car with a loan, it’s likely that you may still owe money on it when the car is totaled. The challenge arises when the insurance payout (based on the ACV) is less than the remaining balance on your loan. This situation, known as being “upside down” or having “negative equity” on your loan, can be financially burdensome.

Here’s how the process typically unfolds:

  1. Insurance Payout: After the accident, your insurance company evaluates the damage and declares the vehicle a total loss. They then calculate the car’s ACV and issue a payout. This payout is sent directly to your lender to cover the outstanding loan balance.
  2. Remaining Loan Balance: If the insurance payout is less than what you owe, you are still responsible for paying the difference. For example, if you owe $20,000 on your loan, but the ACV of your car is only $15,000, the insurance company will pay $15,000 to the lender, leaving you with a $5,000 balance.
  3. Out-of-Pocket Costs: In this scenario, even though you no longer have a car, you would need to cover the remaining $5,000 out of your own pocket. This can be particularly stressful, especially after dealing with the emotional and physical toll of a car accident.

The Role of Gap Insurance

Gap insurance, which stands for “Guaranteed Asset Protection,” is designed to cover the difference between the amount you owe on your car loan and the car’s actual cash value. In the example above, gap insurance would cover the $5,000 difference, ensuring that you are not left paying out-of-pocket for a car that is no longer drivable.

Why Is Gap Insurance So Important?

1. Depreciation Happens Fast: Cars depreciate rapidly, often losing as much as 20% of their value within the first year of ownership. If you finance your car with a small down payment or opt for a longer loan term, there’s a good chance you’ll owe more on the car than it’s worth within the first few years. Gap insurance protects you from this rapid depreciation.

2. Peace of Mind: Accidents are unpredictable, and the last thing you want to worry about after your car is totaled is a large financial burden. Gap insurance provides peace of mind, knowing that you won’t be left with a substantial debt on a car that’s no longer usable.

3. Affordability: Gap insurance is relatively inexpensive compared to the potential financial burden of being upside down on a car loan. It can typically be added to your existing auto insurance policy for just a few dollars a month, or it can be purchased as a one-time fee through your car dealer or lender.

4. Applicability to New and Used Cars: While many people assume gap insurance is only necessary for new cars, it can be equally important for used cars. If you finance a used car with a high-interest rate or make a small down payment, you could easily find yourself owing more than the car is worth.

When Should You Consider Gap Insurance?

Gap insurance isn’t necessary for everyone, but it’s worth considering in the following situations:

  • Low Down Payment: If you put down less than 20% of the car’s purchase price, you’re more likely to owe more than the car is worth, at least for the first few years.
  • Long Loan Terms: If your loan term is longer than 60 months, the slower rate of paying down the principal increases the risk of negative equity.
  • High-Interest Loans: High-interest rates mean that more of your monthly payment goes toward interest rather than the principal, which can slow down the rate at which you pay off your loan.
  • Leased Vehicles: Gap insurance is often included in lease agreements because the lessee is responsible for the car’s value at the end of the lease. However, if it’s not included, it’s crucial to add it.

How to Get Gap Insurance

There are several ways to purchase gap insurance:

  1. Through Your Auto Insurance Provider: Many auto insurance companies offer gap insurance as an add-on to your existing policy. This is often the most cost-effective option.
  2. Through Your Car Dealer: Dealers often offer gap insurance at the time of purchase. While convenient, this option can be more expensive, so it’s important to compare it with other providers.
  3. Through Your Lender: Some lenders offer gap insurance as part of the loan agreement. This can be convenient, but again, it’s essential to compare costs.

Additional Considerations for Gap Insurance

While gap insurance is an excellent safeguard against financial loss, there are a few additional points to consider:

  1. Know What Your Policy Covers: Not all gap insurance policies are created equal. Some policies may have exclusions or limits on coverage. For example, some gap insurance policies only cover a certain percentage of the car’s ACV or may not cover certain fees, such as extended warranties or loan rollover amounts. It’s essential to read the fine print and understand exactly what your policy covers.
  2. Consider the Cost-Benefit Ratio: While gap insurance is generally affordable, it’s important to weigh the cost against the potential benefits. If you are close to paying off your loan or if your car’s value has stabilized and is close to what you owe, you may not need gap insurance. In such cases, it might be better to save the money you would spend on gap insurance premiums.
  3. Reevaluate Your Needs Over Time: Your financial situation and the value of your car will change over time. If you purchase gap insurance at the beginning of your loan, consider reevaluating your need for it as your loan balance decreases. Once the loan balance is close to or less than the car’s value, gap insurance may no longer be necessary.
  4. Alternatives to Gap Insurance: If you decide that gap insurance isn’t right for you, there are other strategies to protect yourself from negative equity. For example, you can make a larger down payment to reduce the amount you owe, or choose a shorter loan term to pay off the loan more quickly. Additionally, maintaining a savings buffer can help cover any shortfall between the insurance payout and the loan balance if your car is totaled.

Conclusion

Having your car totaled while still owing money on it can be a stressful and financially challenging situation. Understanding the potential pitfalls and preparing for them by purchasing gap insurance is a smart move for any car owner. Gap insurance provides a safety net, ensuring that you’re not left paying for a car that’s no longer drivable. By covering the difference between your loan balance and the insurance payout, gap insurance can save you from financial strain and offer peace of mind in an already difficult time.

In summary, if you’re financing a car and are concerned about the potential for negative equity, gap insurance is a small investment that could make a big difference.

It’s an essential consideration for anyone who wants to protect themselves from the unexpected costs associated with a totaled vehicle. As you navigate the complexities of car ownership and financing, remember that gap insurance is not just an optional add-on—it’s a crucial element of financial security that can protect you from unforeseen financial hardships.

With the right preparation and understanding of gap insurance, you can drive with confidence, knowing that even in the worst-case scenario, you won’t be left with a hefty bill for a car that’s no longer on the road.

What You Need To Make Money From Your Junk Your Car

You can request or tell the to the insurance company that will total your car that you want to “Owner Retain” your car and that how much they will take off from the amount they are going to pay you.

Example let’s say the insurance company is keeping your car and after paying off your loan with the finance company you’ll end up with a check for $3000 ask the insurance what they will pay if you keep the car.  If they say they will deduct $800 dollars from the $3000 that means that you will get a check for $2200 and if we give you a check for more than $800 then you will make more money.

You can call us at 321-209-7777 if you’re in Florida or 1-800-887-8552 nationwide in the US to get your quote.  Just make sure when asked about your title you say is a “salvage title” and when asked if you’re still making payments on that car say “no”.  Now once we give you an estimate over the phone you have an idea of what we’ll pay (remember quotes are good for 7 days).  You can also get a quote online clicking this button —->GET QUOTE ONLINE
Once you have that info you can arrange to get your car title mailed to you from your finance company.  Once you have your salvage title you can junk your car to us.  We pay a lot more for late model cars 2015 and up.

Yangwang U8’s emergency flotation capability

This floating capability brings a new meaning to passenger safety.  The vehicle’s sunroof ceiling ensures that water will not enter the interior for at least 30 minutes.  This gives occupants a significantly increased chance of survival during a flood or emergency situation.  Furthermore the ability to move and steer the vehicle while afloat greatly enhances the likelihood of self-rescue or getting closer to rescue personnel reducing the risk of drowning or harm.

Can You Sell A Car With Expired Registration In Florida: A Complete Guide

Can expired tags be sold? We can’t always keep up with the fast-paced world. When preparing to sell a car, the registration date can be overlooked.

If you have your car’s paperwork, selling it for cash is easy. You can sell a car without proper documentation, but you’ll need to take extra steps.

It’s possible to sell a car with expired registration in the state of Florida as long as it doesn’t own any money in other it has no liens.

Can cars with expired tags be junked?

In Florida, you can junk a car with expired registration tags as long as you are the original owner.  If you have an electronic title you must provide proof of ownership with an insurance card old registration and your driver’s license.

Vehicle registration identifies the owner and verifies the vehicle’s legality to drive. When pulled over, the registration proves you’re not driving a stolen car.

Vehicle registration proves ownership at sale. A seller needs registration, VIN, license plate number, and clear title. Don’t worry about an expired title until you sell your car. Still owe money on your car but need to sell it? Work with your bank and state requirements to release a lien.

Junking an expired-registration vehicle

Private parties who want to buy a car with expired tags must ask the right questions. If a car has expired tags, you could face legal consequences if pulled over, as it’s illegal to drive an unregistered vehicle.

Why should you register a car?

A vehicle’s registration proves it’s legal to drive in a certain state. It helps you get a car license plate. A vehicle registration helps the DMV track the car’s owner, address, plate number, title number, and VIN. Registration helps prove legal ownership before selling a car.

Florida laws are very specific when selling an unregistered car, but you must prove the sale is legal everywhere. You’ll need a clear title to prove you own the car and can sell it. If the car is financed, the bank owns it, not you. If you have the car’s title but no registration, you may be able sale or junk the car but keep in mind that if the title has been signed over to you already you might have to pay back taxes and penalties.  So the best thing to do is junk the car instead of selling it to a third party.

Your car may not be registered when you sell it, but only a registered vehicle can be driven legally. Unsure about selling an unregistered car? Check with the DMV.

Autojunker buys unregistered cars?

We buy cars for cash, but you must prove ownership.  Autojunker will accept a title as proof of ownership for a car with an expired registration. A bill of sale can be proof in Florida but you must provide and state ID and your fingerprint. A seller’s insurance card can also serve as ownership proof.  Florida requires us to keep this information just in case there are any disputes in the future. Your state may not require a title if your car is older than 10 years.   Newer than 10 year vehicles require titles. We can legally buy your junk car if you can prove ownership.

As the summer travel season approaches, more and more people are hitting the road. But with gas prices at an all-time high, people in the area wonder if trips are worth the cost.

Gas prices in Florida are the highest they have been since 2014. This is because countries that control most of the world’s fossil fuel supplies are keeping production low, even though their economies are getting better.

Overnight, the price of gas in Florida went up $4.89. These are from a Shell gas station in West Palm Beach, Florida, on June 24th, 2022
Drivers are still having a hard time at the pump, and it just got a little worse.

Experts say that gas prices could stay the same for the next six months to a year, or they could go up. AAA said that there has been a lot of pressure on crude oil prices to go up because the demand for fuel has been higher than the supply. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic was bad for the world economy, many world leaders have been reaching out to OPEC to ask for production levels to return to what they were before the pandemic.

How much would it cost to fill up for someone with a 14-gallon tank? Since gas prices went up by 13 cents in some places since last week, you would pay $1.82 more than you did then. It all comes down to supply and demand. The amount of fuel made around the world is going down, but people want to fill up their cars more than ever.

Even airlines are feeling the effects of these rates, and they say they hope fuel costs will go down. RJ LaSasso, the founder and CEO of Jet the World, talked about how gas prices are going up. LaSasso said, “It takes all the money out of the bottom.” “We have to pass it on to the client or eat it if we want to keep the business, so it gets very, very hard to run a business.”

Some people, like Alessandro Cattabriga, do not think that Florida’s high gas prices are a big deal.

“Look, I am from Europe, and the prices here are not even close to what they are there, so this is still cheaper for me than anywhere else,” Cattabriga said.

AAA said that the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. hit a new high of $4.92 on Friday after going up by 5 cents overnight.
In the past two weeks, the average price of a gallon of gas has gone up by 25 cents across the country.  Americans are not happy about the new gas prices.
AAA says that this is because the price of oil is going up and there is more demand for gas.

However, the biggest contributing factor is increasing oil prices as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Russia’s invasion and the responding escalating series of financial sanctions by the U.S. and its allies have given the global oil market the jitters,” said Andrew Gross, a spokesperson for AAA.

As the conflict continues, analysts believe oil markets will continue raising the price of oil to reflect the increased risk of disruption of global supplies.

why are gas prices so high in florida
Source: Google Finance

What’s causing the high prices?

The main reason for the rise is the high price of crude oil, which was around $100 a barrel on Tuesday after jumping to $110 a barrel last week.
If you look at the price of CRUDE OIL in any financial graph you can see it used to be US$67 a barrel as of this writing is around US$107 Dollars.

Last week, the leader of the 27-country European Union called on the group to stop importing crude oil within six months and refined products by the end of the year. This caused oil prices to go up.  Gas prices are high, which is likely to make inflation worse.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies, known as OPEC+, made a deal on Thursday to pump an extra 648,000 barrels of crude oil into the global market each day in July and August, which is 200,000 barrels more than they had planned.

The International Energy Agency says that Russia supplied 14 percent of the world’s oil last year, and the sanctions that the West has put on Russia are already leaving a big hole in the market. In April, Russia stopped making nearly 1 million barrels of oil per day. The IEA says that this number could rise to about 3 million barrels per day in the second half of 2022.

After the European Union said it would stop buying 90% of Russian oil by the end of the year, prices on the oil futures market, which is similar to the stock market in that people bet on the price of oil, went up by a lot last week. Shanghai also reopened after being closed because of COVID-19. This increased the need for gas at a time when oil production is still lower than it was before the pandemic. Jenkins said that oil companies can not speed up production fast enough to keep up with the rise in travel.

Dr. Smythe from Florida Gulf Coast University’s Department of Economics and Finance says that these requests have been ignored.

“OPEC’s plan could be, ‘We are limiting oil supply to make up for some of what we lost during the pandemic,'” Smythe said. “This could be from March or April 2020 to the summer of this year.” “That could also be happening, and production may or may not go up until they are happy with their profitability or whatever else they are using to make decisions.”

On May 10, 2022, a gallon of gas cost $4.99 at a BP gas station on Okeechobee Boulevard near Interstate 95.

“The cost of oil makes up more than half of the price at the pump, so when oil prices go up, so does the price of gas,” said AAA spokesman Andrew Gross.

Gas prices in Florida are a little lower than the national average, but they have gone up in the last few weeks after a small drop in April.

The oil exporters’ refusal to help countries that rely on fossil fuels means that everyday drivers, especially Floridians, continue to pay the price.

Adam, a driver for the U.S. Postal Service, said,

“Working people are suffering because they have less money to take care of their families.”

“Wow, this is going to take a long time!” Dee, who lives in Lee County, said.

“How long do you think we will be able to afford this? How are people with kids going to be able to pay for this? Definitely go on welfare.”

AAA says that the average price of a gallon of gas in Florida is $4.282, with Palm Beach County having the highest price at $4.446.

Filling up on the Treasure Coast is a little cheaper than in South Florida. In Martin County, drivers pay $4.344, in St. Lucie County, $4.30, and in Indian River County, $4.319.

Prices for gas at a Mobil station near West Palm Beach, Florida, on May 10, 2022

On May 10, 2022, a gallon of gas at a Mobil station on Okeechobee Boulevard and Manor Avenue near West Palm Beach cost $4.19.

Before gas prices went up, Shadae Lewis, a driver, said it cost her about $50 to fill up her tank.

But on Tuesday, when the price was $4.99 a gallon, she had to pay a huge $85.

“It seems like a lot, but you will need gas… you have places to go, so it is hard to argue with you “Lewis said.

Early in March, gas prices in Florida hit $4.21 per gallon, which was a previous record.

These numbers are a big jump from this time last year, when the average price to fill up in Florida was only $2.876.

Shadae Lewis is a driver in Palm Beach County.

Shadae Lewis talks about how the price of gas is going up and how it is hurting her finances.

When Will Gas Prices Go Down

When will gas prices go down in florida

AAA said that gas prices could keep going up because there is not enough oil in the world and the market is still very unstable.

Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA, said, “We are seeing a steady drop in gasoline supplies in the U.S., which is making gas prices go up in the end.” “So, you have less supply at a time when demand is really going up because summer vacations are coming up soon.”

AAA released a report on Tuesday saying that Sunshine State residents are more confident about traveling now than at any other time since the pandemic started.

The study found that 51 percent of Floridians still plan to travel this summer, even though gas prices are high. These people will find other ways to pay for their trips.

Jenkins said, “They might take shorter trips, stay closer to home, take fewer trips, or just change their budget.”

But that will not be the case for people like Alfonso Pagan who already live there. He said that this summer, his vacation money will pay for gas and rent.

President Joe Biden said that steps are being taken to make things easier for American families.

“We saw in March that price increases at the pump were responsible for 60% of inflation that month,” said Vice President Joe Biden. “This summer, my government will allow the sale of gasoline made with biofuels grown in the country. This will help keep prices down even more. This was not allowed before, and I am working with Congress to pass investments that will help build a clean energy future and make us less dependent on foreign oil and dangerous dictators like Putin.

When will gas prices drop

Many people are hoping that the plan made by the Biden administration will help bring down gas prices.

AAA says to watch your speed, stay away from rush hour, and use cruise control to get the most out of your gas.

Tourism experts say they don’t think the fuel problems will hurt tourism in Florida because people have been stuck in their homes for so long that the emotional comfort of being able to get up, fill up, and leave whenever they want will win out over the desire to stay put and save gas.

A recent survey by AAA found that once the price hit $5, 80% of drivers would change their habits to save money. Most of the people who answered said they would either drive less or go shorter distances. Some people would mix trips.

Stephanie Rank, a spokesperson for the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority, said that higher gas prices do make more people use public transportation. From April to May, fixed-route ridership went up by 3.7%. That does mean that the agency has to pay more for fuel, but for now, riders are not paying for that.

“If you take the bus or train instead of driving your own car, you can save hundreds of dollars quickly,” said Rank. “A monthly pass for our Flamingo Fares can cost $70, while some people have to spend $70 every week to fill up their gas tank.”

What do you do when your automobile stops working, whether it’s old, totaled, or has a blown engine?

So, the only thing on your mind is figuring out how to fix your car, right? Exactly.

In this post, we’ll teach you how to get rid of a car that won’t start, as well as the best technique to do so.

How Can You Dispose of a Non-Working Car?

You may be wondering if you can sell your non-running car on your own.

You won’t be able to find a buyer for a car that no longer runs until you fix it at the very least.

For repairs that will cost you more than the value of your car or are close to thousands of dollars, it’s not worth your while.

How Get Rid Of Non Working Car

You’ll undoubtedly want to put your automobile up for sale after you fix it up.

Because of the repairs, you won’t be able to sell the car for much less than you paid for it.

Having an older model car only makes the situation worse.

It’s possible, however, to sell a non-running vehicle and still make some money, so keep reading.

Check Your Non-Running Car’s Condition.

We don’t know for sure. It’s possible that your car still has some monetary value.

The first thing you should do is determine whether or not you need to get rid of it.

Your car’s mechanic should perform some checks.

Car Inspection To Sell Your Car

Your mechanic will be able to assess the value of your car parts after the inspection is complete.

Besides that, he may tell you that the current market worth of your car is higher than what you’d get if you sold it as junk.

If you have this information, you’ll have a better idea of what to expect from buyers and how to advertise your vehicle.

The cost of making repairs to your car may be worth it if it is still repairable [without breaking the bank] and is still fit for driving.

You can sell the vehicle when you’ve got enough money to buy another one.

There is a lot more cash in your bank account thanks to the savings you’ve made and the payoff from your old car.

Your current vehicle will be more functional and enjoyable if you follow these instructions.

Regardless of when you want to sell your car, assessing its current condition can provide you with a more accurate estimate of its market value.

Why is it so vital?

To put it simply, we will not encourage anyone to enter any car sales situation without a thorough understanding of the value of what they’re giving.

So, what would be our piece of advice? You should get your car checked out by a mechanic to ensure that you get a fair price for your vehicle and its parts.

How to Sell Your Non-Working Car for Money.

We’ve got a few possibilities for you to try, but it’ll all come down to your own preferences and the amount of money you want to get out of your vehicle.

We can begin by answering the following question before moving on to some possible solutions:

Is it Possible to Sell a Non-Running Car on My Own?

Here are a few strategies to help you sell your non-running car:

Set a reasonable price.

To begin, as we mentioned in the outset of this post, you’ll need to assess the current condition of your vehicle.

Set up your papers.

car paperwork title registration

Before you can legally sell your car, you’ll need the bill of sale, the title, and any maintenance records in order.

Create a Facebook marketplace listing or a boost ad with some photographs.

Place an ad for your vehicle by taking clear pictures of it.

Keep in mind that being honest regarding the condition of your vehicle will benefit you.

If you want to sell your car online, be aware of scammers.

Set up a public meeting place and bring a friend with you if anyone is interested in buying your non-running car.

Unless you have the payment in hand, never accept digital funds or allow someone to pick up your vehicle without payment.

Buyers may need to visit your house to see the car if it’s mostly kept in your garage.

As a precaution, make sure someone is at home to greet them when they arrive. First and foremost, put your own safety first.

Sell Your Car to a Car Dealer to Get It Out of Your Hands.

Tow your vehicle to a local car dealership to see if you can sell it or trade it in.

Before quoting you a price for a car, dealerships typically do their own examinations and valuations.

It’s yours if you like the quote. Don’t worry, if you don’t, you can always have it hauled out of their repair shop at your own expense.

There are several car dealerships that will only accept your offer if you plan on purchasing another vehicle from them in the future.

Dealerships of this type will normally reduce the value of your current vehicle from the purchase price of the new vehicle you wish to purchase.

A junkyard or scrap yard in your area may be your only option if you don’t want to buy another car and can’t locate an auto dealer willing to buy your no-longer-running vehicle. You can then sell the vehicle for scrap.

Sell Your Car to a Mechanic or Repair Shop to Get It Out of Your Hands.

auto-repair-junk-car

You may be able to sell your non-functional vehicle to local repair companies or mechanics.

Your car’s parts can be used to fix another vehicle, or it might be restored and sold for a profit.

When selling to one of these buyers, keep in mind that they’re in it to make a profit as well, so don’t expect too much in return.

Parting out the car and selling the parts they require to them is a preferable option in this scenario.

Donate Your Old Vehicle to Charity and Get Rid of It For Good.

We’re frequently asked if it’s better to sell or give an automobile.

Giving your car to charity or donating it is probably the last thing on your mind because you would assume that charitable giving isn’t a source of income. That isn’t correct.

No, you won’t get any money for donating your car right away; it’s just a good deed for the community that you’re doing.

Non-profits and charities you donate your car to will issue a tax receipt for the fair market value of your car.

In the future, when you’re ready to file your income taxes, you can use this receipt.

You’ll be able to deduct the amount on the tax receipt from your total income if you have it.

What a terrific way to give back to the community and earn some extra income.

It’s fine if you don’t need a lot of money to take advantage of it.

Finding a trustworthy registered charity in need of car components or a non-running vehicle is as simple as conducting an online search or asking about.

If your car is worth more than $500, you should familiarize yourself with Section A Form 8283.

You are responsible for completing this form and including it with your tax return.

Unless your car is valued more than $5,000, you won’t be required to fill out Section B.

Unassemble the vehicle and sell the parts.

Even if your car is no longer operational, you may still be able to salvage some of its components.

junk car parts

This is the most popular alternative for folks who have broken down autos.

As for you, this shouldn’t be an issue at all.

A few mechanically inclined skills, tools, and knowledge are all you’ll need.

There are a few more things to keep in mind when dismantling a vehicle: time, work, and a lot of storage space.

To discover buyers for your car’s parts after you’ve successfully divided it out, all you’ll need to do is search online.

You should be able to get a good price for your parts if there is a high demand for them.

You’ll save some time and effort if you hire a mechanic to dismantle the vehicle for you, but you’ll also lose some money.

In some cases, you may come across buyers who want you to sell them all of the parts at a discounted price.

It’s all up to you. Our recommendation, if you ask for it, is to sell the parts separately to get a better and definitely more money.

Sometimes, selling your non-running car for components makes sense, but most of the time, it’s best to sell your vehicle as is.

Microchips are to Blame for the difficulty in finding the new car you want.

The supply of semiconductors, the technology used to make microchips, is running low, and some automakers have been forced to halt production of certain vehicles.

Both Ford, FCA and Toyota have had to adjust production schedules in North America, as have Volkswagen, Nissan, and Honda.

An industry analyst said the supply disruption could affect the availability of affected vehicles.

Suppliers’ struggles during the spring’s six-week production halt prevented a smooth return to production for automakers adapting to pandemic restrictions. Many of the issues we faced in 2020 are still present today. Microchip shortages are once again forcing automakers to reschedule or halt production in some cases.

Why are used car prices so high right now?

A small but critical component is missing from automobiles because the consumer electronics industry is claiming ever-increasing numbers of chips to meet the growing demand for electronics. This is especially true for electric vehicles, according to Gartner vice president of research Gaurav Gupta, who talked about the growing importance of semiconductors throughout the automotive value chain. In December, Continental and Bosch issued warnings about a possible shortage of semiconductors, the technology from which microchips are made.

A principal at Deloitte Consulting who works in the semiconductor segment, Chris Richard, said, “Some of these modern vehicles have thousands of semiconductors… and some of these things are probably just a nickel a piece, and some are probably $150.” Each of these cost points has the potential to put a halt to production. A five-cent part or a $150 part can put a halt to your production.”

Where do the chips for cars come from?

Currently, not all automakers have had to adjust production schedules to properly allocate the supply of microchips because of the supply crunch. Nevertheless, there are many others who have, including in the USA and Canada. Ford’s Louisville, Kentucky assembly plant, where the Escape and Lincoln Corsair are built, has taken a break from production this month. Toluca, Mexico, where the Jeep Compass is assembled, and Brampton, Ontario, where the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger and Challenger are built, were both halted by FCA.

Toyota has had to reduce production of the Texas-built Tundra due to a shortage of semiconductors. However, Subaru declined to specify which models were impacted by the shortage of semiconductors and only said it has “modified” production in Japan at its Gunma plant and in Indiana at its Lafayette plant, which is where the Ascent, Legacy, Outback, and Impreza are put together in the United States.

VW said in a press release that it “needs to adapt production at its various Chinese, North American, and European locations to the current supply situation in the first quarter of 2021.” Volkswagen said that Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, koda, Seat, and, to a limited extent, Audi are affected by this recall.” A VW spokesperson denied that this is the case in North America, despite media reports to the contrary.

According to Kristin Dziczek, VP of research at the Center for Automotive Research, changes in production could affect the availability of vehicles on dealer lots. In spite of this, Dziczek noted, “Automakers are prioritizing the chips they have for the high-demand vehicles.”

Even companies like Honda, Mercedes-Benz, and Nissan, which did not have to reduce production in North America, have done so elsewhere. Representatives from nearly all the automakers contacted emphasized the fact that the semiconductor shortage is constantly changing. Some spokespeople are reluctant to go into detail because production pauses are often short-lived and introduced abruptly.

According to Gartner analyst Gupta, the semiconductor shortage was caused by a combination of macroeconomic and political factors. Demand for automobiles decreased in the spring. Microchip orders were slashed as a result. Demand for consumer electronics such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, as well as laptops and desktops for home offices, grew at the same time. Car demand has rebounded much faster than expected, and microchip suppliers have not been able to keep up.

“With lead times of six to nine months, the semiconductor industry has not been able to scale up fast enough to meet this unexpected growth in automotive demand.”  Auto supplier Continental said

Continental’s production is expected to be severely disrupted until at least 2021 as a result of the bottlenecks in the semiconductor industry.

Are these microchip shortages caused by the US-China trade war?

As a result of the Trump administration’s actions in the US-China trade war and imposing costly tariffs on Chinese semiconductor imports, there are less semiconductors in the market, Gupta explained. Finally, automotive chip makers like NXP Semiconductors and Infineon are unable to produce the eight-inch wafer microchips that the auto industry relies on quickly enough due to manufacturing constraints.

Will car prices go down in 2023?

While new-vehicle inventories have rebounded, they are still lower than they were at the same point last year, despite the industry’s desire to see inventory levels rise. Production of vehicles with high inventories is being reduced by automakers. Still, the Toyota Tundra, which has had production slashed, has a 30-day supply, according to Cox Automotive.

The full impact of this semiconductor shortage may not be fully understood until it is over, like the supply challenges faced by the automotive industry in the second quarter of 2020. With regard to dealer inventories, and thus consumers, this is also true.

However, one thing is for certain: the pandemic’s effects and challenges on the auto industry are far from over.

What should I do with my junk car?

In 2019 there have been many complaints in the US of engine fire in Kia and Hyundai models.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been investigating these incidents since 2015

The estimated percentage defective for defective cars is 1 percent.

Korean companies, now largely merged into Hyundai-Kia, have grown strongly in recent years.

The recall covers certain 2012 and 2013 Sorento SUVs, 2012-2015 Forte and Forte Koup cars, 2011-2013 Optima Hybrid cars, 2014 and 2015 Soul SUVs, and 2012 Sportage SUVs.

The Hyundai affiliate said that “based on NHTSA’s recommendation” it had made the “decision to recall certain Kia vehicles as a preventative measure to mitigate any potential fire risks.”

Hyundai recalled 129,000 US vehicles on Friday because connecting rod bearings can wear out prematurely, which over time can result in engine damage and increase fire hazards.
